Daniel Eastman practices in the area of Energy & Regulatory Law, Lobbying, and Transactional Law, specializing in the areas of utilities, renewable energy, carbon offsets, CAFO water issues, corporate green energy strategies, and alternative fuels. His transactional practice includes seed and venture capital formation, mergers and acquisitions, private placements, PIPE financing, IPO and secondary offerings, due diligence, and sourcing funds for deals.
Prior to joining Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan, Mr. Eastman was a Founder, Director, and Senior Vice President of Microgy Cogenerations Systems Inc., a subsidiary of Environmental Power Corp (NASD: ERG). Microgy develops, owns, and operates renewable gas facilities using a licensed Danish digestion technology. Mr. Eastman successfully developed three large digester projects in Wisconsin and the world’s largest digester in Stephenville, Texas. He has also developed high BTU landfill gas to pipeline projects.
Mr. Eastman has seven years of state agency experience, including his appointment by Governor Tommy G. Thompson to the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (1995-1998). While at the Public Service Commission ( PSC), he concentrated on the regulation of electric, natural gas, and telecommunications industries and had a focused interest in renewable energy and power generation issues. Prior to the PSC, Mr. Eastman was appointed by Governor Thompson to serve as Wisconsin’s Commissioner of Securities (1991-1995). As Commissioner of Securities, his work included the deregulation of the securities offering process in Wisconsin and the simplification of small business capital formation. He has also served as an alderman in the City of Mequon.
Mr. Eastman is a Professor of Business at Wisconsin Lutheran College, where he teaches business law, economics, and small business management courses. He also oversees the Grenada and China business development program at WLC. Mr. Eastman received his J.D. from the Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, New Hampshire, and he is admitted to practice in Wisconsin and Massachusetts. He earned a B.B.A. in Real Estate Finance and Development and a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He is fluent in German.
