Roderick F. Brown

Biography

Roderick F. Brown has served in various legal and business development positions for small, mid-size, and large corporations, and he has extensive knowledge in the area of intellectual property, employment law, government contracting, government compliance, and business law. He has worked for an array of companies within the areas of information technology, retail, government contracting, and education sectors.

Mr. Brown’s specialized skills are in the areas of contract negotiation; software licensing; assessing data usage, consumer privacy, trademark, trade dress, copyright, and patent feasibility; marketing, legal, and operational strategy development, integration, and compliance; IT systems analysis; multi-level business unit liaising; and drafting corporate contractual documents, including non-disclosure, teaming, partnerships, joint-venture, strategic alliance agreements, and subcontracts. Furthermore, he is experienced in negotiating different aspects of software licenses, franchising agreements, and educational institution memorandums of understanding for providing technical services and training.

Mr. Brown previously served as the Vice President of Business Development and as General Counsel for a government contracting organization that focused on technical and specialized military training. He served as corporate liaison for several branches of the Department of Defense, Department of State, embassy personnel, foreign military officials, and domestic and international business leaders. In addition, he was responsible for designing and implementing corporate compliance procedures for government agencies, regarding contractual, employment, intellectual property, privacy, and security matters.

After law school, Mr. Brown also gained experience as an Appeals Hearing Officer for the Employment Security Commission of North Carolina; as counsel and business development specialist for an informatics company servicing large corporate clients; as co-founder of an Information Technology training company; and, as a consultant for small businesses and start-ups.

Mr. Brown earned his J.D. at North Carolina Central University, as well as received three Masters Degrees in Information Science, Library Science, and Business Administration. He received a B.S. in Accounting and Business Management at North Carolina State University. He is a member of the National Bar Association and is licensed to practice in North Carolina.
