Jermaine A. Lee

Biography

Jermaine A. Lee is a trial lawyer who has tried numerous jury and non-jury cases. He has broad experience handling business and tort claims in federal and state trial courts, appellate courts, and in arbitration proceedings.

Mr. Lee’s business practice focuses on complex commercial disputes, shareholder and partnership disputes, construction defect litigation, commercial landlord/tenant disputes, intellectual property disputes, professional malpractice litigation, insurance disputes, including disputes relating to the financing of insurance policies, and consumer protection litigation. His tort practice focuses on the defense of personal injury and wrongful death litigation, products liability, aviation, and premises liability matters.

Prior to joining Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan, Mr. Lee practiced as a trial lawyer with Shook, Hardy & Bacon and Cozen O’Connor, both international law firms and Bilzin Sumberg, a well-respected Miami firm, where he represented clients in a variety of business and tort matters. Prior to becoming a trial lawyer, Mr. Lee practiced as a Certified Public Accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he focused his practice on tax consulting services, which included, among other things, implementing tax strategies and preparing the tax disclosure in the audited financial statements of private and publicly traded companies.

Significant Representations

• Secured a $2.2 million verdict in a three-week federal trial against companies that failed to provide promised services regarding the operation, repair, and maintenance of the airplane of the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

• Defended a well-known professional basketball player in a trial in state court and before a panel of the American Arbitration Association in matters involving certain partnership agreements and the use of the athlete’s name, image, and likeness to promote certain business ventures.

• Defended a Florida energy company in a trial involving alleged environmental contamination to lands in Aventura, Florida, and the impact of the alleged contamination on a developer’s ability to successfully and timely develop a residential project.

• Defended a condominium association in a trial in state court involving alleged injuries suffered by a former tenant on the premises and the alleged injuries resulting from the former tenant’s botched back surgery.

• Defended a national telecom company in a trial in state court involving the alleged theft of trade secrets.

• Represented a real estate broker in a trial in state court relating to a dispute with a condominium developer.

• Represented an owner of a commercial center in various disputes involving commercial tenants.

• Represented construction developers in state court matters alleging defects with the developer’s construction work on commercial and residential projects.

Mr. Lee has been selected for inclusion in the Florida Rising Star℠ list by Florida Super Lawyers®, recognition granted to fewer than 2.5% of attorneys in the state. He sits on the Board of Directors for Foster Care Review, Inc. and for History Miami 11th Judicial District Historic Society.

Mr. Lee earned a J.D., cum laude, at the University of Miami School of Law and a Masters of Science in Taxation and Bachelors of Science in Accounting from Florida International University. During law school, Mr. Lee interned for Justice Peggy Quince of the Florida Supreme Court and with a national law firm. He also received the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Award in connection with his trial work in a second degree murder trial. He is admitted to practice in Florida and the U.S. District Court for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida.
