R Delacy Peters, Jr. is an experienced business litigator with a focus on complex commercial litigation. His clients include prominent Fortune 100 Corporations. Throughout his career, Mr. Peters has handled litigation disputes involving antitrust and trade regulation, fraud and deceptive trade practices, securities law violations, professional liability claims, agreements limiting competition, products liability, accidents with critical injuries, catastrophic incidents, franchise and dealership law, asbestos litigation, entertainment law, environmental law, intellectual property and class action defense. Mr. Peters has drawn upon his background and experience in the financial services industry and has also represented state and local governments regarding litigation matters and public finance.
Mr. Peters has additional experience in the area of Food and Drug Law. He offers clients unique legal representation with respect to all areas of the food industry. Mr. Peters has represented global food and beverage companies, as well as food processors, manufacturers, suppliers, growers and producers, retailers, restaurants, warehouse clubs, wholesalers and distributors.
Mr. Peters is a frequent speaker and presenter. His presentation topics include “Personal Injury Defense Litigation Techniques”; “New Methods to Improve Judicial Selection System in Illinois”; “Class Action Litigation from a Defense Perspective”; “How to Establish a Credit Union”; “Current Aspects of Media and Communications Law”; “Litigation and Current Issues surrounding the Subprime Lending Crisis”; and a presentation regarding the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Food Safety Modernization Act.
Mr. Peters was selected for inclusion on the Illinois Super Lawyers® list in 2005, 2009-2011, and 2013-2014. He has been designated as an Illinois Leading Lawyer annually since 2007 through Leading Lawyers Network. Recently, Mr. Peters was named as a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. This honor is awarded to attorneys who are among the elite trial and appellate lawyers within their practice areas throughout the United States. Membership is limited to 3,500 Fellows, representing less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers.
Mr. Peters serves on the National Bar Association Board of Directors and was named as General Counsel for the Association in 2007. He serves on the Board of Directors for The Lawyers Club of Chicago and is a Past President of the organization. Mr. Peters has served on the Board of Directors of the Cook County Bar Association and is a Past President, and he has served on the Board of Directors of the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago, and the Task Force on Judicial Elections, commissioned by the Cook County Judicial Advisory Council.
Mr. Peters is also a member of the Cook County, Chicago, American, and National Bar Associations. He is a member of 100 Black Men of Chicago; he served as the General Counsel in 2005 and 2006 and served as the Vice President of Development in 2009. Mr. Peters is a member of the National Association of Guardsmen, Inc.
Mr. Peters earned his J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law, completed studies toward an LL.M. in Financial Services Law at ITT Chicago-Kent College of Law, and earned a B.S. in Finance from the University of Baltimore. He is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, the United States District Court for the Central, Northern, and Southern Districts of Illinois and the Southern District of New York; and the United States Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit.
