Biography

Dan Quart represents the 73rd Assembly District in the New York State Legislature, which encompasses the Upper East Side of Manhattan and Midtown Manhattan. He currently serves on the Housing, Insurance, Judiciary, Corporations, and Consumer Affairs Committees. Mr. Quart has been a practicing litigator in New York State for fifteen years, representing insurance companies and self-insured companies in personal injury and commercial litigation.

Mr. Quart has a strong record of pro bono advocacy. Since 2002, he has served as a volunteer for the Housing Division of the Legal Aid Society, providing free representation for low-income tenants in eviction proceedings. In 2003, New York State Chief Judge Judith Kaye awarded Mr. Quart the Pro Bono Publico Award as one of New York City’s top pro bono attorneys.

He partnered with Columbia Law School’s Environmental Law Program to prosecute a case in New York State Court seeking to protect parklands and uphold the State’s “open space” law. Mr. Quart also served as a volunteer attorney for the Disabled Veterans Consortium, representing a disabled veteran who was denied benefits.

In May 2012, Mr. Quart was named one of City & State’s “40 under 40″ for being a young influential member of New York City politics.

Mr. Quart earned his J.D. at St. John’s University School of Law and a B.A. at the State University of New York at Binghamton. He is admitted to practice in New York and U.S. District Court, Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.
