Biography
Cyrus L. Booker concentrates his practice in the areas of tort, employment, medical malpractice and commercial defense litigation. This experience includes work at the administrative agency, state and federal trial court, and state and federal appellate court levels. He has become very proficient in utilizing summary judgment motions as an effective tool in efficiently defending against the claim asserted.
Mr. Booker has also represented creditors in Bankruptcy Court for over 25 years in Chapter 7, 11, and 13 proceedings, including various types of adversary proceedings, including preference actions.
Mr. Booker holds the distinction of being the first African-American Associate and Partner at one of Nashville’s ten largest law firms. He was a partner at Dearborn & Ewing, and then founded Booker & Associates Law Firm, before accepting a position as a Shareholder at Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell and Berkowitz.
Mr. Booker has been awarded an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, the highest possible rating for legal ability and ethical standards. He has been selected for inclusion in Mid-South Super Lawyers® since 2006. He is certified as a Civil Law Mediator by the Tennessee Supreme Court. Mr. Booker has served as an Adjunct Faculty Member at Vanderbilt Law School and at the Nashville School of Law. He was also a Member of the Leadership Nashville Class of 1997.
Mr. Booker earned a B.A. from Harvard University and a J.D. from Georgetown University School of Law. He is licensed to practice in the state and federal courts of Tennessee and before the United States Supreme Court.
