Biography
Jay Blumenkopf is an experienced litigator and trial attorney, representing corporations and insurance companies in matters throughout the United States. He devotes a substantial part of his practice to the defense of employment and ERISA, health, and life benefits claims, as well as the defense of insurance coverage and bad faith claims. His background includes practicing at large law firms, including Proskauer Rose LLP and Yoss LLP.
Mr. Blumenkopf represents insurance companies and self insurers in life, health, and disability benefits matters throughout the United States. Where the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974, 29 U.S.C. Section 1001, et seq. (ERISA) does not govern, he represents insurers in breach of contract and bad faith matters. He also represents insurers in suits by individual providers and by institutional providers under hospital services contracts.
Mr. Blumenkopf is a frequent lecturer and is involved in many professional activities. He has served on the Advisory Board of the Bureau of National Affairs, Inc., Civil Trial Manual and been a member of the faculty of New York Law School, the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and the Hofstra Law School Trial Techniques Program. He has authored numerous articles in legal publications.
Mr. Blumenkopf is a member of the Employment Law and the Life, Health and Disability Law Committees of the Defense Research Institute (DRI). In addition, he is active in civic and charitable organizations and is a member of the Board of Directors for One Heart Worldwide.
Mr. Blumenkopf earned his J.D., cum laude, from Vermont Law School, an LL.M. at New York University, and his B.A. at the University of Vermont. He is admitted to practice in Florida; New York; the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, Southern District of New York, and the Middle District of Maine; U.S. Court of Appeals Second and Eleventh Circuits; and the U.S. Supreme Court.
