Biography
Joshua F. Stubbins has managed and defended multiple complex litigation matters in the areas of products liability, financial institutions, consumer fraud, and corporate malfeasance in both federal and state court. Mr. Stubbins also has experience representing clients in appeals before the 4 th and 7 th Circuits. His experience also includes commercial transactions and real estate, having assisted in the preparation and negotiation of finance documentation in both the public and private sector. He assists clients in real estate transactions, including real estate sales, purchases and development, and tax-deferred exchanges. Mr. Stubbins drafts, negotiates, and structures complex contracts for commercial office buildings and major residential developments.
Mr. Stubbins has extensive experience defending financial institutions against claims made under state and federal consumer protection statutes, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Truth in Lending Act, the Real Estate Settlement Practices Act, the Electronic Funds Transfer Act, the Wisconsin Consumer Act, the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Unfair Trade Practices Act, and the Iowa Consumer Act. Mr. Stubbins is experienced in defending consumer class actions, including those involving nationwide classes of allegedly harmed consumers. In addition, Mr. Stubbins has successfully argued client positions on consumer fraud issues pending before the United States Circuit Court for the Seventh Circuit.
He received a B.A. from The College of Wooster, where he was a Compton Scholar, and a J.D., graduating magna cum laude, from American University, Washington College of Law, in Washington, D.C. During law school, he was a member of the American University Law Review, served on the law school admissions committee, and was awarded the Mooers Trophy for Outstanding Student in Trial Practice
Mr. Stubbins is admitted to practice in the States of Wisconsin and Maryland; the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, District of Maryland, Northern District of Illinois, Northern District of Ohio; and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Wisconsin, National Association of Mortgage Bankers, Cardozo Society, and the Defense Research Institute (DRI).
