Biography

Matthew J. Feery counsels clients on issues involving employment discrimination, restrictive covenants, wage and hour concerns, disability and medical leave, and compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. In addition to day-to-day employment counseling, his experience includes representing and defending employers of all sizes in employment litigation in a variety of settings, including state and federal courts and administrative agencies, as well as the American Arbitration Association.

Recently, as the second chair in a federal jury trial, he obtained a favorable jury verdict on behalf of a national retailer in a disability discrimination case brought by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

He has composed employee handbooks and drafted employment agreements, including non-competition agreements, confidentiality agreements, and separation agreements. Mr. Feery also has experience with issues under a variety of employment laws and regulations, including Title VII, the FMLA, the ADA, the FLSA, and the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, as well as myriad state discrimination laws. In addition to his work on behalf of clients, he serves as the editor of the Firm’s weekly employment law eNewsletter, The 60-Second Memo®.

Mr. Feery earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law. He earned B.A. degrees in Political Science and History, graduating cum laude, from Marquette University and also studied at the London School of Economics. Mr. Feery served as an Extern to Chief Judge Paul P. Biebel, Jr., Cook County Circuit Court, Criminal Division, in Chicago. He is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin and is admitted to practice in the states of Wisconsin and Illinois, as well as the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin and the Northern District of Illinois.
