Biography
Matthew T. Fricker is a civil litigator and trial attorney with extensive experience defending claims arising from construction site negligence, premises liability, property damage, automobile and truck accidents, construction defects, and defective products. Mr. Fricker has served as lead counsel in numerous jury trials in Wisconsin state and federal courts. He also has litigated several insurance coverage disputes, including complex disputes over environmental claims involving multiple insurers.
Mr. Fricker’s experience includes an appellate practice in Wisconsin state and federal courts, and he has argued before the Supreme Court of Wisconsin. Mr. Fricker had primary responsibility for numerous appeals, including representing the insurer in Nielsen v. Spencer, 2005 WI APP 207 (court affirmed summary judgment for the insurer and held a mother is not liable for the violent acts of her son) and representing the product manufacturer in U-Line, Inc. v. Ranco North America, Appeal No. 2005 AP275 (court affirmed a jury verdict for manufacturer against product defect claim seeking $5 million in property damages). He has also served as sole defense counsel at numerous mediations nationwide, resulting in favorable settlements.
Prior to joining Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan, Mr. Fricker gained experience with two large, national insurance companies, as well as Milwaukee-based law firms. He has worked directly with claims professionals to evaluate cases upon filing and to develop defense strategy, including selection of liability and defense experts.
Mr. Fricker earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Notre Dame Law School, where he served on the Notre Dame Law Review as lead articles editor. He received a B.S. degree with majors in Political Science and English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After law school, Mr. Fricker worked as a law clerk for Judge James L. Ryan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in Detroit, Michigan, and as an Honors Program trial attorney for the Civil Division of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.
He is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin; Board of Directors, St. Thomas More Lawyer’s Society of Milwaukee; School Board, St. John Vianney Parish; and Event Coordinator, Notre Dame Alumni Club of Milwaukee. Mr. Fricker is licensed to practice in Wisconsin, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
