Biography
Nelson W. Phillips III served as a Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge. He is experienced in representing commercial and health care clients in a variety of matters, including contract disputes, white collar investigations, intellectual property claims, and defense of nursing care facilities. For over nine years, Mr. Phillips also served as a federal and state prosecutor in both the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin and the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office where he litigated numerous cases before the Wisconsin Federal District and State Circuit Courts and tried a large number of those cases to verdict. As a prosecutor, Mr. Phillips has argued cases before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Phillips has tried both federal and state civil cases in Wisconsin courtrooms, too, including a six-week jury trial in which he helped to defend a construction company against allegations of negligence, breach of contract and fraud.
In 2015, Mr. Phillips was elected as a Fellow in the Wisconsin Law Foundation. He serves as Associate Director to the Landmark Credit Union Board and is on the Board of Directors of the Wheaton Franciscan Elmbrook Memorial Foundation. Mr. Phillips’ professional memberships include the Eastern District of Wisconsin Bar Association, Milwaukee Bar Association, Seventh Circuit Bar Association; and the Serjeant’s Inn.
Mr. Phillips earned his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and received a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Michigan. He is admitted to practice in Wisconsin, U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
