Biography
Robert J. Reid works with all levels of his clients’ staff to promote better understanding and practice of sound labor relations, to address changing organizational needs in the area of human resources, and support and streamline his clients’ HR and labor functions. He provides defense counsel to private and public employers in labor and employment issues, including discrimination and civil rights issues, breach of employment contracts, employment-at-will, OSHA matters, Sarbanes-Oxley matters, employment investigations and audits, wage and hour and other FLSA issues, collective bargaining negotiations, labor arbitration, and unfair labor practice issues under the National Labor Relations Act and corresponding state law.
He has successfully mediated numerous labor and employment law matters, achieving favorable resolutions for his clients. Mr. Reid first chaired more than 75 labor arbitrations involving discipline/discharge and contract interpretation grievances and prevailed on behalf of the employer in a substantial majority. He has successfully defended EEOC, NLRB, OCRC, OSHA, and other agency charges, as well as achieving complete dismissal of ERISA and LMRA Sec. 301 class actions on behalf of numerous co-defendants.
Mr. Reid drafts employment policies, including employee handbooks, other employment policies and procedures, collective bargaining agreement provisions, and employment applications, and related documents. He has also drafted WARN Act notices, FCRA and other disclosures, reduction-in-force (RIF) protocols, and severance/settlement agreements. Mr. Reid conducts supervisor/employee training and seminar presentations on a full range of employment and labor law issues, including such topics as EEO, FMLA, Wage & Hour, Sexual Harassment, Employment At-Will, Supervisory and Management Skills, Discipline and Discharge, Union Avoidance, Performance Evaluations, Hiring Practices, Internal Investigations and Audits, OSHA matters, WARN Act issues, and E-Discovery and other Litigation Matters. He has also published numerous articles on topics of interest in labor and employment law.
Mr. Reid is certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as a Specialist in Labor and Employment Law and has been named an Ohio Super Lawyer by Law & Politics Media (2004-2006). He is a member of the Labor and Employment Law Committees of both the Ohio State Bar and Cincinnati Bar Associations. Mr. Reid’s involvement in professional and civic organizations also includes the Industrial Relations Research Association (Past President), Western Economic Council, Westside Lawyers’ Association, Cincinnati Academy of Leadership for Lawyers (Class V Inductee), and Westside Referral Organization.
Mr. Reid earned his J.D. at the University of Cincinnati College of Law and a B.A., summa cum laude, from Xavier University. He is admitted to practice in Ohio; Kentucky; U.S. District Courts for the Eastern District of Kentucky, Southern District of Ohio, Eastern District of Michigan, and Eastern District of Wisconsin; and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
