Susan A. Engler
 

Susan A. Engler focuses her practice in the areas of medical malpractice litigation, professional liability defense, healthcare risk management, and medical and pharmaceutical product liability defense. Ms. Engler also represents physicians and other healthcare providers in licensure actions and provides counsel with regard to medical issues relating to employment law and workers compensation issues. She combines fifteen years of nursing experience with fifteen years of legal experience.

Prior to joining Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan LLP in 2008, Ms. Engler’s background includes ten plus years of medical malpractice defense at the law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, where she provided defense for physicians, allied healthcare professionals, and hospitals with professional liability claims, lawsuits, and licensure actions. She provided risk management advice to clinics and hospitals. She also handled employment and workers compensation cases.

Ms. Engler was the Director of Professional Risk Management for the Medical College of Wisconsin, where she handled medical malpractice litigation and the College’s professional liability self-insurance and risk management programs. Ms. Engler’s responsibilities included management of professional liability claims and lawsuits and directing a comprehensive risk management program.

Ms. Engler earned her B.S. in Nursing and her J.D. from Marquette University. She is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Society of Healthcare Risk Management (President 2004, Board of Directors 1998-2004), and the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management. She has authored articles for nursing and risk management publications and has made numerous presentations in the areas of medical malpractice and healthcare risk management. Ms. Engler is admitted to practice in the state of Wisconsin, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, and the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Seventh Circuit.
