Ms. Dorn received her J.D. from Harvard Law School, where she was an Executive Editor of the Harvard Civil Rights/Civil Liberties Law Review. She received her B.A. from Harvard College.
Ms. Dorn specializes in the areas of employment law and corporate litigation, and she has handled a variety of employment discrimination matters, from charge level to trial, including, but not limited to, cases revolving around claims of sexual harassment and claims of discrimination based on age, sex, and race. Ms. Dorn has conducted internal investigations of allegations of unfair employment practices and defended single plaintiff, multiple plaintiff, and class action discrimination lawsuits. She has also handled a variety of general litigation matters, including but not limited to, product liability suits, claims of tortuous conduct, and claims for breach of contract. Ms. Dorn has tried cases in federal court and before administrative agencies, including the Illinois and New Human Rights Commissions and the National Labor Relations Board. She has handled numerous arbitrations and mediations.
In addition to defending clients in lawsuits, Ms. Dorn has successfully advised clients how to think defensively in order to avoid litigation. She has helped clients implement critical and strategic employment policies, practices and procedures, and has advised clients how to craft and enforce severance, confidentiality, and non-competition agreements.
Ms. Dorn also has extensive experience handling many general business matters, such as corporate formation, corporate (private equity) transactions, SEC and other compliance issues, contract review, and real estate law. Ms. Dorn gained extensive transactional experience while serving as General Counsel to Fletcher Asset Management, an investment management company in New York, New York. In addition to managing the company’s employment and human resource issues, Ms. Dorn negotiated general business contracts, handled various commercial real estate transactions, ISDA agreements, and numerous agreements related to private equity transactions. She formed and had oversight over more than twenty corporations, limited liability companies, and/or limited partnerships. She managed risk, had oversight over compliance programs, managed internal and external SEC audits, and oversaw the defense and prosecution of corporate lawsuits.
Ms. Dorn’s prior work experience includes serving as a law clerk for the Honorable Ann C. Williams in U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Illinois and as an associate attorney at the law firm of Mayer, Brown & Platt in Chicago, Illinois. She has been involved in numerous boards and civic associations, including the American Bar Association, the Harvard Alumni Association, and the Appleseed Foundation. Ms. Dorn is admitted to practice in the New York and Illinois.
