Mr. Furnier earned his B.A. and M.A. from Miami University and his J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law. For over 25 years in jurisdictions throughout the U.S. Mr. Furnier has represented large corporations in complex civil litigation. Concentrating in high stakes controversies, Mr. Furnier’s practice has spanned many areas of the law, including antitrust, class actions, environmental, insurance, mass torts, products liability, and sports law.
Mr. Furnier has devoted a third of his 25-year career to product liability and product-related litigation. Mr. Furnier spent the first five years of his career representing a Fortune 25 client against toxic shock syndrome claims in jurisdictions across the country. Since then, he has litigated claims involving asbestos, automobiles, bicycles, coal pulverizers, lasers, pharmaceuticals, switchgears, and other products. In addition to his vast experience defending corporations against product liability claims, Mr. Furnier has pursued product liability claims on behalf of a utility in cases relating to complex electrical equipment that did not conform to representations of the manufacturer and caused damage to a customer’s equipment.
As a member of a national coordinating counsel team, Mr. Furnier had primary responsibility for litigating dozens of product liability claims involving wrongful death and serious injury. Mr. Furnier successfully defended a client against claims arising from a massive explosion linked to a defective industrial breaker that caused multiple deaths and severe burns to victims. And he has extensive experience securing indemnity and insurance coverage for product-related claims and representing one of the nation’s largest commercial liability carriers in litigation throughout America over products liability coverage in mass tort and property damage claims.
Finally, Mr. Furnier has defended Fortune 500 corporations in high profile, class action environmental cases, including one alleging groundwater contamination from a Florida paper mill and another involving an Ohio uranium processing facility. He has also litigated against insurance companies to secure coverage for another client’s defense and cleanup costs in Superfund litigation. COMPLEX LITIGATION
