Jonathan D. Goins is an intellectual property attorney with experience in the areas of trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. Mr. Goins has represented Fortune 500 and start‐up companies in managing trademark prosecution and enforcement matters; resolving Internet issues related to trademarks, domain names and copyrights; and negotiating a wide variety of agreements involving IP rights.

With major international law firm experience, Mr. Goins has litigated cases involving Lanham Act claims (trademark infringement, dilution, false advertising and unfair competition), cybersquatting, Internet libel and gripe sites, misappropriation of trade secrets, copyright infringement, breach of contract and fraud. His trademark practice has covered all aspects of portfolio management (including global brand marketing strategy, search opinions, advertising clearance, prosecution and maintenance) and enforcement via franchise brand use and distribution compliance, cease and desist letters, licenses, co-existence agreements, negotiated settlements and proceedings before the U.S. Trademark Trial & Appeal Board and the World Intellectual Property Organization’s Arbitration & Mediation Center.

Additionally, Mr. Goins is a “go-to” IP attorney for the sports, media and entertainment industries, having advised several high-profile professional athletes, sports agents, management agencies, best-selling authors, media personalities and artists in “general counsel” matters involving trademarks, copyrights, restrictive covenants, trade secrets, rights of privacy/publicity, defamation/false light, arbitration of contract disputes, negotiated music and television agreements, and endorsement deals.

Mr. Goins is active both in and outside of the legal community, having been selected for Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Top 40 Under 40 Up & Comers (2010), Outstanding Atlanta (2008) and State Bar of Georgia’s Leadership Academy (2008). He is the firm’s designee for the International Trademark Association (INTA). He has served as Chair of the State Bar of Georgia’s Intellectual Property Committee (2009-2011), and as a board member for organizations including Boy Scouts of America-Atlanta Area Council’s Whitney M. Young Annual Banquet (2011) and the State Bar of Georgia’s Diversity Program (2007-2011).

Mr. Goins earned a B.A. at the University of Louisville and a J.D. at Howard University School of Law .  He was a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Inez Smith Reid of the D.C. Court of Appeals.
