Ben received
a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University
of Wisconsin - Madison and a J.D. in 2000 from
the Vermont Law School. Ben received master’s
training in environmental law and holds a certificate
from the University of Wisconsin’s Gaylord Nelson
Institute for Environmental Studies. He is co-author
of Environmental and Real Estate Law, Volume 2, of the
Wisconsin State Bar’s Business Advisor Series,
and editor of the Wisconsin chapter of the LexisNexis
publication Brownfields Law and Practice - The
Cleanup and Redevelopment of Contaminated Land. Ben
is a frequent lecturer on environmental issues throughout
the state.
Ben’s practice focuses on environmental compliance
and enforcement matters, land use, and business organizations.
His relevant experience includes advising clients
on compliance and enforcement issues arising under
the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, CERCLA, RCRA,
EPCRA, and related state environmental laws and regulations.
Ben has advised clients on personal and corporate
successor liability under CERCLA; the treatment, storage,
and transportation of hazardous wastes; and the defense
of contamination claims under various environmental
laws, state and federal remediation actions, Wisconsin’s
Green Tier, and EPA’s self-disclosure policy.
He was named a Wisconsin Rising Star in both 2008 and 2009. Ben is admitted to practice in Wisconsin and the
U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts
of Wisconsin. He is a member of the Milwaukee and
American Bar Associations, as well as the State Bar
of Wisconsin and the Eastern District Bar Association
of Wisconsin. Ben is a member of the Board of Directors
of the Friends of Pheasant Branch, a non-profit organization
