Rasheed A. Simmonds earned his B.A. in Mathematics from Yale College and his J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law. Mr. Simmonds practices commercial and general civil litigation, including employment, bankruptcy, class actions, products liability, real estate, and trademark infringement. Mr. Simmonds is licensed to practice in Ohio, the Sixth Circuit, and the Federal and Bankruptcy Courts of the Southern District of Ohio.
Mr. Simmonds defends employers against claims of race, national origin, religion, sex, pregnancy, age, and disability discrimination. He also defends companies against employer intentional tort actions brought by employees and serious injury, premises liability actions brought by the employees of subcontractors. Mr. Simmonds has defended a Fair Labor Standards Act investigation conducted by the Wage and Hour Section of the Department of Labor. This experience includes the equal employment agencies and courts of both federal and state jurisdictions.
Mr. Simmonds practices in bankruptcy, primarily representing financial institution clients with commercial loan assets. Mr. Simmonds’ real estate litigation experience includes partition disputes, slander titles, ownership and lease disputes, defense of a real estate appraiser, and breach of contract over a $4 million apartment complex.
Active in community and Islamic affairs and development, he serves on the boards of the Yale Club of Cincinnati, the Greater Cincinnati Minority Counsel Program, the Children’s Law Center, and the Bond Hill Community and Urban Redevelopment Corporation. Mr. Simmonds also presented “The Internet as a Revolutionary Tool for Developing Nations” to the International Third World Legal Studies Association’s conference, “Into the 21st Century: Reconstruction and Reparations” (Cape Town, South Africa-January 2001).
