Richard H. Porter received an A.B., graduating magna cum laude, from Dartmouth College and a J.D. from Yale Law School. His practice includes complex litigation, class action, bankruptcy litigation, creditor representations, contract claim defense, asbestos litigation, environmental claims, arbitration, securities litigation, workers’ compensation, professional liability and directors and officers claims, and the representation of energy clients in utility restructuring proceedings.
Mr. Porter has more than 35 years of claims experience, including the representation of clients in class action, environmental issues, and contract claim defense. He represented a Fortune 100 Company in more than 15 lead paint cases, where multiple parties were involved. He has also represented clients with asbestos cases, as well as environmental litigation and counselling with regard to toxic spills and cleanups.
Mr. Porter’s experience in securities litigation includes both litigating and serving an as arbitrator in securities disputes. He has also prepared the winning briefs for securities litigation before the United States Supreme Court in Rondeau V. Mosinee Paper Corp. 95 S.Ct. 2069, 422 U.S 49 (1975).
In 1974, Mr. Porter was a staff lawyer in the Special Impeachment Inquiry of the Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives. He was a partner at the law firm of Foley & Lardner in Milwaukee from 1979 to 1991 and then a Senior Attorney at Ameritech. Mr. Porter has been an arbitrator for FINRA, the New York Stock Exchange, and American Arbitration Association.
Mr. Porter’s professional memberships include the State Bar of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Bar Association, and the Wisconsin African American Lawyers Association, of which he was President in 1984. Mr. Porter is admitted to practice in Wisconsin, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin and the Northern District of Illinois, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
