William P. Scott
 

Bill is both an attorney and licensed professional geologist.  He received his B.A., M.S., and J.D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  He has concentrated his legal practice on environmental and natural resources law, as applied to corporate operations, mergers and acquisitions, project siting, and real estate development since 1988. Prior to law school, Bill’s experience included seven years as a geologist with an interdisciplinary team of scientists at the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey. During law school, he was law clerk to the Wisconsin Public Intervenor and also the Environmental Protection Unit of the Wisconsin Department of Justice.

Bill represents corporations and government clients on matters involving environmental impact analysis, soil and groundwater remediation, transactional due diligence, liability allocation, regulatory permitting and compliance, the transfer and development of contaminated real estate, and water law.  He frequently assists clients to obtain and use appropriate Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment reports.  Bill has also negotiated complex regulatory compliance agreements, served as environmental counsel to Bankruptcy Trustees, and lobbied the Wisconsin Legislature and Department of Natural Resources on administrative rulemaking and environmental issues.  His experience gained by years of practice before administrative agencies helps to obtain permits and resolve alleged violations for his clients.

Bill is admitted to practice in the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin.  He is a member of the American Bar Association Section on Environment, Energy, and Resources; the State Bar of Wisconsin Section on Environment; and the Milwaukee Bar Association.
